Kaya was the daughter of the painter and printmaker Morikazu Kumagai. She followed her father’s artistic lead and her art includes the eleven woodblock prints of flowers or birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most of Kaya’s picture subjects are residents of the high mountains where she spent a lot of time. She drew the shapes of her subjects in a semi-realistic way and colored them fairly accurately in most cases.
